私たち「トンボ洋傘 前原光榮商店」は、1948年（昭和23年）、戦後間もない東京・浅草三筋町にて創業いたしました。
モノが不足していた時代だからこそ、手間を惜しまない丁寧なものづくりが、人々の暮らしを支えていました。

ブランド名にある「トンボ」は、その性質上、前にしか進まず後退しないことから、
古くより縁起の良い「勝ち虫」として親しまれ、戦国時代には兜の前立てや刀の鍔、
陣羽織の装飾などにも用いられてきました。
こうした背景もあり、私たちの傘には“不退転の決意”という想いが込められています。

「傘」という漢字には4つの「人」が含まれていますが、私たちはこれを「生地を織る」「骨を組む」「手元を作る」「傘に仕立てる」―4つの工程を担う職人たちの象徴と捉えています。
なかでも「傘に仕立てる」工程では、生地の裁断と縫製が最も重要であり、傘のフォルムや張り、開閉時の音など、仕上がりの美しさを左右する要となります。
ミリ単位の精度が求められるこの繊細な作業には、職人の感性と熟練の技が凝縮されています。

創業75周年を迎えた2023年には、原点である浅草三筋町の店舗をリニューアルオープンいたしました。
三筋町は、かつて職人や商人たちが行き交い、三本の筋道にちなんで名づけられた歴史ある町。
当店にとっても、技と誇りが培われたかけがえのない場所です。

Message from the President

We at “Tonbo Umbrellas – Maehara Kouei Shoten” were founded in 1948, in the postwar days of Tokyo’s Asakusa Misujimachi.
In an era of scarcity, craftsmanship that spared no effort was what supported daily life.
Our umbrella making has been nurtured within that very tradition of Japanese artisanal culture.

The name “Tonbo” (dragonfly) in our brand carries a special meaning.
Dragonflies can only move forward and never retreat, which is why they have long been considered auspicious symbols of determination and victory—appearing on samurai helmets, sword guards, and battle coats during the Sengoku period.
With that legacy in mind, our brand embodies an unwavering spirit of resolve.

The Japanese character for "umbrella" (傘) includes four instances of the character for “person” (人).
To us, these represent the four core craftspeople behind each umbrella: those who weave the fabric, assemble the frame, create the handle, and finally, tailor the umbrella.
Among these, tailoring—which includes the precise cutting and sewing of fabric—is the most crucial stage, determining the umbrella’s shape, tension, and even the distinctive sound it makes when opened.
This delicate process requires millimeter-level precision, and it is here that the sensitivity and skill of the craftsman truly shine.

In 2023, marking our 75th anniversary, we renovated our original store in Asakusa Misujimachi—an area named after the three main streets (misuji) that once bustled with artisans and merchants.
This district holds deep meaning for us, as it is the place where our craftsmanship and pride have taken root.
